Rodrigo Carlessi
Dr. Rodrigo Carlessi (MSc, PhD) is a Cancer Council of Western Australia Postdoctoral Fellow, and leads the Advanced Genomics platform in the Liver Cancer Research Program at Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute, and the DNA Methylation Program in the Liver Cancer Collaborative (LCC). His expertise encompasses genomics technologies and computational biology, with a focus on uncovering early molecular determinants of hepatic carcinogenesis, and the development of biomarkers and therapeutic targets. His significant contribution includes identifying and characterising pre-malignant hepatocytes using single nucleus RNA sequencing, a breakthrough with substantial clinical implications for liver cancer risk prediction in liver disease patients. His current projects explore tissue and circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) methylation alterations during disease progression, employing long-read sequencing for non-invasive epigenetic marker identification. Rodrigo has an international research career, including training in Australia, Brazil and Israel, his output includes 35 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters, accumulating over 2,000 citations.
