eHealth, mHealth, telemedicine, telecare, health telematics….the list of names for the use of information communications technologies in healthcare is long. The borders between apps, devices, medicines and care are blurring as the technologies slowly find their place in daily diabetes care.   In this session we will look at what the new technologies can deliver in terms of 5 E’s: Engagement, Empowerment, Education , Evaluation and Evolution. There is no doubt that the potential of new technologies in diabetes management and care is significant, but we have yet to realise its potential. The 2 B’s  - the Burdens and Boredom are  still holding us back from realising the full benefits new technologies can bring to easing the long and twisting patient journey.  We will look at the burdens in more detail  - in particular the burdens of governance of new technologies, and consider how best to equip all those on the diabetes journey, including patients, health care professionals,  researchers, policy makers, payers, employers and vendors
